Description
Another illustration for my story - I'm sorry there hasn't been more of them lately. Inspiration struck me today, though. The concept of the Crone is a very old one - coming from the Pagans (Maiden, Mother and Crone).
The Crone is often seen with an owl, raven and a wolf. I kept the wolf out of this image because I couldn't find anywhere for it - it looked wrong on a visual level. The owl is perched on her shoulder with his long, long tail (
) and the ravens fly in the background behind the sleeping trees.
The Crone is the one who carries our souls into the Underworld when we die, but she is also the giver of life (the egg in her hand is symbollic of new life). She wears a mask for to look upon her true face would change your opinion of her. She is, however, as old as Time - and seeing her bony, wrinkled face would probably scare anyone reading my faery story to their kids. The mask is also there to add to her mystery. She is wraith-like and nameless.
Took me all day. From 9am this morning to 8:30pm tonight. Lots of painting with my trusty mouse.

as i was playing music with my little brother today, auras crept up and out, i looked at his face (perifferal vision) and he appeared quite like this charactor here. A guiding spirit as the owl, such is also the case with my brother- him and i are both rapturous birds of pray; guiding spirits- as i recognized his face as this 'Crone' tonight, i was offered quite a curious look of solid interest, and a particular meditation for the nightime. Thank you lucifer, for your introverted dive into the wild stillness of the night-- and for putting a face to the name!~
